The biggest way in which we help unwanted animals in Tuscaloosa is by volunteering at Tuscaloosa Metro Animal Shelter.

The basic biological needs of shelter animals are well-taken care of by shelter staff. All animals receive plenty of food, shelter, water, and even medicine when they are sick. But the shelter staff does not have the time or manpower to provide walks, baths, and quality time for each and every animal. This is the job of the volunteers.

When we visit the shelter, we bathe filthy puppies, help exercise the animals, give them one-on-one attention, and occasionally clean kennels. The difference this makes in the quality of life that these unwanted pets have is immeasurable.

If you would like to become an FHA volunteer, please email us at fha@ua.edu. If you do not live in Tuscaloosa County, you can search online and find out where your local shelter is located. Paying them a visit could make the difference between life and death for them, and will be great therapy for you, too!
